20 degrees in 20 minutes

On our weekly trip to Hapuna Beach, we drive through Waimea on the north shoulder of Mauna Kea. Waimea is at 2600 ft., and it's quite cool and rainy there this season, with temperatures around 68° -70° F. It's takes us 20 minutes to drive down from Waimea to the beach, and by the time we get there the temperature has gone up 88° - 90° F.

From long-sleeves to swim trunks in five tunes on the radio; that's my kind of topography.

Mauna Kea 14,000 ft above sea level, as seen from Pahoa. Yes, that's snow. Hmmm, should I go skiing?
